Curtains in Interior Design: Rules You (Don't) Know

A curtain is not just "fabric on a window"
Curtains are not just decoration – they have both practical and aesthetic functions. They help regulate light, ensure privacy, dampen noise, and add softness to the interior. Properly chosen curtains can optically enlarge the space, make it cozier and warmer – visually and physically.
Basic rules for choosing curtains
Length and height are key
A curtain should always reach the floor, ideally even slightly below. Short curtains look cheap and "unfinished."
Our tip: Place the rod or track as high above the window as possible, ideally just below the ceiling – this will optically increase the room's height and make the space feel more airy.
Color and pattern
Curtains should match the rest of the interior, but they should not overwhelm it.
In minimalist interiors, soft, monochromatic fabrics in the tone of the walls are suitable.
However, if you want to add dynamism to the room, don't be afraid of textures or patterns.
Light permeability
For the bedroom, we recommend blackout curtains that will protect you from morning light and partially from noise.
In the living room, you can combine light voiles for daylight and heavier curtains for evening coziness.
What do we often forget?
Poorly Chosen Mounting Method
In terms of design, there is a big difference between a curtain on rings, a rail, or a hidden system in the ceiling.
In luxury interiors, we often use hidden rails – they do not interrupt the ceiling line and create a clean look.
Maintenance
Remember that some fabrics are more demanding to maintain. For the kitchen, choose a washable, easy-to-maintain fabric. In the bedroom, you can afford more demanding materials like linen or velvet.
